In 1967, LMA established the service division of Livestock Board of Trade (LBT).
Now, over 30 years later LBT is as important to members' risk management as it was then. Through LBT
members stay informed about the trade reputation and financial responsibility of their customers.
Now, as technology enters every capacity of LBT, there are over 90,000
files of information received from LMA members, trade sources and financial institutions that are available
with the single stroke of a key. Member inquiries are gladly taken by fax at (816)891-7108, which allows
you to send the customer's signature for credit release, or you may call LBT at (800)821-2048 or email
inquiries to lbt@lmaweb.com. In order to complete a credit inquiry in
a timely manner, use the Buyer Registration and Consent Form designed specifically for your business, it will
include the following example of information that is necessary:
- Name and address of buyer
- Name and address of banking institution
- Account number
- Bank contact name
- Approximate purchase amount
- Signature of buyer (very important)
If you do not have your customized form, please contact LBT
at (800)821-2048, and they will provide you with one.
Along with providing credit information, LBT also assists markets in creating and
filing tariffs with the Packers & Stockyards Administration.
LBT also plays an active role in assisting with stolen livestock, vehicles, bad checks
and other notices that are important to the business of LMA members. Once the alert is received at the
LMA office, it is emailed and faxed to LMA members, the LMA Region Executive Officers
and several industry organizations including state ag departments
and count sheriff departments. The alert is
also posted on the LMA website under LMA Member InfoLink Alerts, where it
is viewed by all who visit. If you have an alert that you would like posted, you may call, fax or email
your report. Please provide your market name, contact person, phone number and detailed information about
the alert. A stolen livestock report form may be printed and faxed or filled out and emailed, by
clicking here.
