Economic impact study shows livestock auctions are growing in importance for rural vitality; $2M in total value-added dollars to community

A 2023 economic impact study, which updated a study from 2017, found that livestock auction markets continue to be important for the growth and vitality of rural communities. The study of an average, fixed-facility livestock auction market revealed that the market provides approximately $2 million in total value-added dollars to its local community. This result is up from $1 million identified in the 2017 Livestock Marketing Association (LMA) Economic Impact Report.

Livestock Marketing Association Announces New Scholarship Program

The Livestock Marketing Association (LMA) is pleased to announce the release of a new scholarship program. With the goal of investing in the next generation, the program is designed to award five (5), $2500 scholarships to individuals that are interested in or display knowledge of the importance of the agriculture industry and its supporting entities, with plans to use their career to advocate for or advance the livestock marketing industry.

LMA Applauds Bill to Allow Livestock Auction Investment in Small and Regional Packers

Livestock Marketing Association (LMA) applauds Congressmen Mark Alford (R-Mo.), Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.), and Dusty Johnson (R-SD) for introducing the Amplifying Processing of Livestock in the United States (A-PLUS) Act. If enacted, the bill would remove an outdated regulatory barrier and allow livestock auction market owners to own or invest in small and regional meatpackers.

New Mexico auctioneer wins World Livestock Auctioneer Championship qualifier

Sixto Paiz, of Portales, N.M., was named champion at the 2023 World Livestock Auctioneer Championship (WLAC) qualifying event at Windsor Livestock Auction Co., Inc. in Windsor, Mo. A total of 45 contestants competed for a top 10 placing, granting them a spot in the 2023 WLAC semifinals at Arcadia Stockyard in Arcadia, Fla.
